On January 28, 2016, the Presidency of Council of the European Union sent to the Permanent Representatives Committee (Coreper) the latest text of the “Proposal for a Regulation of the European Parliament and of the Council on the protection of individuals with regard to the processing of personal data and on the free movement of such data (General Data Protection Regulation [GDPR])”. The text will have to be adopted by the Council and, subsequently, by the Parliament. The regulation and the directive are likely to enter into force in spring 2016 and be applicable as of spring 2018 (see here for more information).
