The EU Parliament voted a “telecom package” legislation barring internet access providers from blocking specific services for economic reasons and to end mobile phone roaming fees beginning of 2016. If this legislation is approved by the EU Council operators will be prohibited from blocking or slowing down selected services (e.g., free calling services like Skype) for economic or other reasons. The legislation is rooted in the “principle of ‘net neutrality’, which means that all internet traffic is treated equally, without discrimination, restriction or interference, independently of its sender, recipient, type, content, device, service or application”, reports the source. The EU Council’s approval is expected in October 2014. More info available at http://www.europarl…
