On February 2, 2016, Article 29 Working Party (WP29) released a statement containing “the 2016 action plan for the implementation of the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR)” that will guide the implementation of the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR). The document particularly offers guidance on the transition toward the European Data Protection Board (EDPB).
In the GDPR, DPAs will have a higher role, their cooperation will be enhanced, and EDPB will grant consistency.
The main lines of WP29’s action plan consist of 4 priorities: (i) setting up the EDPB administrative structure (e.g. IT, human resources, service level agreements and budget); (ii) preparing the one stop shop and the consistency mechanism; (iii) issuing guidance for controllers and processors; and (iv) communicating around the new role of EDPB.
